Rolfing® for FITNESS & PERFORMANCE

Rolfing SI focuses on fascia which is your body’s connective tissue and communication system. It envelops and interacts with every muscle, nerve, blood vessel, system, and structure of the body.

When your fascia gets tight and unhealthy from overuse, imbalances, and injuries, it can restrict blood flow and nerve signals, which are both vital for muscle output and access.

You can’t properly contract and condition your muscles if the nerve signal from the brain is impeded. You also have trouble building muscle and toning key areas  if there’s poor blood supply to the area.

Tight fascia can impede nerve activity the same way it can impede proper blood flow. It pains me to see people working out in the gym like crazy and look the same month after month because they have hardly any muscle access and aren’t even “activating” or conditioning their muscles. If your fascia is healthy and open and you’re training smart, your body should change!

The nervous system is the superhighway of communication between the brain and the body. If one nerve route in the body is compressed by tight fascia, the nerve signal can reroute to another part of the body in order to get the job done, meaning other muscles will compensate. It doesn’t matter how many trainers you hire or how much money you throw at the problem, the fascia must be addressed.

PERFORMANCE

Healthy blood flow can be restricted when the fascia – which encases the blood vessels – is tight and unhealthy, causing compression. Without adequate, oxygenated blood flow to muscles and tissues, you may have less efficient muscle performance than if your blood was flowing freely.

Muscle access can be constrained. If your fascia is compressing your nervous system, your muscles simply aren’t going to fire properly.

Injuries can become more common. When the body is constantly trying to reroute nerve signals and the wrong muscles are compensating for what the body is requiring, the body is out of a state of homeostasis, or optimal function, and injury can occur.

FAT LOSS

Inefficient breakdown of fat. Fat cells require oxygen in order to break down, and your blood supply is what carries oxygen to the fat cells. If the blood flow is restricted, you’ll have less oxygen to the fat cells and an inefficient breakdown of fat, meaning less calories burned.

Calorie burning can be restricted, much like how restricted blood flow affects how you break down fat and burn calories. If you aren’t effectively activating and conditioning your muscles – especially the larger muscle groups – you aren’t effectively burning calories.

People with dysfunctional fascia can have a harder time losing weight and getting the results they want from their fitness efforts. Restoring your fascia can improve your muscle performance,  allowing for improved range of motion, weight loss and fitness.

MUSCLE DEVELOPMENT & TONE

Inefficient development of muscles. If the blood can’t carry nutrients and oxygen to the muscles, glycogen can’t break down efficiently in order to build more muscle mass.

YOUTHFUL SKIN

Nutrient transport is reduced. Blood carries the nutrients to the cells, and tight fascia can restrict the transport of the nutrients like protein, collagen, and elastin that helps make the skin look more youthful and supple.
